Theo Hirschfield (b. 2000, Jackson Hole, Wyoming) is a contemporary ceramic artist based in San Diego, California. He studied at the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Working primarily in clay, Hirschfield’s practice explores dualities—strength and tenderness, spontaneity and precision—through forms that appear grown rather than constructed.
Deaf since early childhood, his work is informed by a highly physical, full-sensory process. His sculptures often echo the playful rigor of Ken Price, the surface obsession of Yayoi Kusama, and the vibrance of Jun Kaneko’s monoliths, while remaining distinct in their presence and personality.
Recent solo exhibitions include You and Me, The Annex at Gallery Sonder, and Carnival, CCS Gallery, Santa Barbara (2023)
